The following is my unedited journal entry from January 22, 2020.
What is the goal of life? Is it fame, fortune, or fun? Leaving a legacy? Maybe doing something so great that you become a household name and have a biography written about you? Those are certainly goals, but not worthy ones in my opinion.
Life is not meant to be lived for oneself–earning degrees or prestigious awards, landing your dream job, or retiring well-off. The purpose of man is to love and cherish his Creator while learning as much about Him and His creation as He allows us to know and doing whatever He calls us to do–with a smile on our face and a song in our heart–so that we may go Home with joy in knowing that we served Him well. We’re meant to be humble servants of the King on earth so that we may reign with Him in Heaven. This world is not the end; indeed, it is only the beginning!
My heart explodes with excitement when I think of all God has for me from here to the finish line–so many promises, so much love! I believe with all my heart that I have been called to do a few great things, and many small things with love.
I want to be a writer. I want to be a speaker. But more than anything, I want to be a Christian. For to be a Christian means to be a “little Christ,” and I can think of no higher occupation that ever existed. Whether it means wealth or poverty, health or sickness, fame or disgrace, I am determined to be a Christian. It is the one job that can never be lost! Think about it–I’m guaranteed the same generous Employer for life, I’ll never be without a Salary, and the Benefits are beyond comparison! Why would I want anything less? Yes, to be a Christian is the best calling in the world! [And, dear reader, the position is freely offered to every person!] I am so happy that God counted me worthy–and it’s all because of His Son. What a great Friend indeed!
No matter what tasks this employment will require, I am determined to do them all. And never for my own fame or glory. If God wants my name in a history book, so be it. But that is not the goal of life that will leave anybody satisfied at death. Narrow is the road that leads to true greatness!
“Blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence!” [Jeremiah 17:7] Hallelujah, amen. I’m living for the world to see nobody but Jesus.
