Welcome to CoCo’s Chitchat! We have an off-schedule post today to celebrate a special event–my 3-year blogiversary!
When I first started blogging, I had no idea I would enjoy it as much as I do now. I never knew I would become a member of the Young Writer’s Workshop, or purchase my own domain, or have several articles published elsewhere.
Honestly, I think the only reason I set up CoCo’s Chitchat in December 2017 was because my parents were surprisingly okay with it and it sounded like freedom. It was meant to be a school assignment for my younger sisters, but it sounded like fun to me, so I set up a WordPress account and started posting writing tips and fiction snippets.
However, thirteen-year-old me had no idea what she was doing, and didn’t post very consistently for very long. The site sat untouched for several months because I had nothing to say nor the commitment to say it.
Then, by the sovereignty of God, I attended a youth retreat with my church in August 2018 and was asked the question: “What is something you are already doing that could be turned around for His glory?” I immediately thought of CoCo’s Chitchat, and made up my mind right then and there–in that upper room–that I was going to write a Christian living blog.
When I got home from camp, I got to work redoing the site and published my first rebranded post on August 17, 2018. It was short and simple–just a list of my favorite verses–but it marked the beginning of a journey only God could have imagined.
In the three years since then, I have grown so much–not only as a writer, but as a person. My blog has served as a place to share my thoughts when I thought no one else was there to listen. It has been an endeavor I could pour myself into so I felt like I was contributing to the world. It has shown me that ministry and teaching the Word of God is something I want to spend the rest of my life doing. Fourteen-year-old me had no idea what she was starting back then, but God knew all along.
Now here I am, seventeen years old and about to start my freshman year of Bible college. I still have little-to-no idea of what God is doing with my writing, or where it will go in the future. But I do know that I am here for the ride and will continue to write as long as He allows, wherever He leads.
I wanted to put together a motivational resource for those who are coming up behind me in the blogging world–not because I’m good at it, but because I believe every Timothy benefits from having a Paul to lead the way. There are some “mistakes” I have made, and honestly, there is no way to avoid them. You will learn the most from simply diving in and doing it. After all, experience is a pretty good teacher. However, I want to share what I have learned anyway, because we’re all in this together. We blogging veterans (if three years could even qualify me as such) should be there to help the ones just starting out.
I want to be there to answer any questions you have about the blogging process and/or be the support you need to keep writing. I’d love to connect with you via email and have you as a “Member” of CoCo’s Chitchat. What do you think? All you have to do is sign up for my free newsletter with this link, and you will have my email to contact me directly. I’m also offering a “Member’s Only” space on this site, as you can see in the top menu, with exclusive content for those who subscribe. The first article I hope to put on there is “my top lessons learned from 3 years of blogging”!
Even if you aren’t a writer or wanna-be blogger, I would encourage you to sign up. I send out Christian song recommendations, behind-the-scenes updates, links to my articles on other sites, photography from my adventures/daily life, and Christian support and encouragement to just be your friend.
Especially as I enter college, I expect my mailing list to be my main writing priority. I will keep up with Instagram and CoCo’s Chitchat as I’m able, and who knows what’s going to happen–I might continue on as I have been or end up prioritizing my Instagram more. I expect there to be some changes as I transition into this new season. But if you want to make sure you don’t miss anything, please consider signing up.
And one last announcement: I agreed to co-write for a new blog called Redeem the Time. You can read about my invitation and decision to write for them in my introduction post here. I’m so excited to see where God is leading me with this new open door!
Whether this is your first time visiting, or you’re an OG follower, thank you for being here. I appreciate your support by reading, and I hope more than anything that you are pointed to Jesus and His gospel message. It is only by His grace that I have continued blogging these past three years, and by His grace that I am who I am today. He is the reason I write, the reason I live, and the reason I want to continue being a light in this world.
Thank you again for being here, and I hope to see an email from you in my inbox soon. (If you’ve read any of my writing, I’d love to hear in the comments what your favorite article has been!)
Here’s to another year of writing!
In Christ now and always,
